I cleaned off/out my Trans Am for the first time since moving. I did not like how it was becoming a shelf and parts storage facility.
I still have to finish the floors and start cutting out some bad metal in the trunk and left rear frame rail. In the midst of all that I have to take it all back apart. Yay. Wish me luck.

This is good. I’m convinced the number one killer of projects, is when they become storage. Even if they’re storing parts for itself. Putting barriers in place to work, keeps work from happening.

The next step is building some shelving to accommodate the parts I need to remove to take it back down to the shell so I can finish getting it ready for a drivetrain.

So, did the car start out as a TA or a Formula? ( Doesn’t really matter, it looks great)
The early Formula 400 is still the best looking Firebird of all time IMO
11/10 would drive.

Thanks. Its a TA 400 auto .I didn’t have the original hood (I do have a rusty black one off another car and the fiberglass cowl hood that was on mine but is ugly as sin ) and always liked the Fo rmula hood better. Plus when I finally DO get an LS for it (it came with no motor) I don’t have to worry about mounting a hood scoop... that I also do not have.

Go all in. Have a Formula/TA hood. Note that this car had air deflectors behind the wheels too. That’s maximum ultimate T/A.

Good plan. Taking some time to get organized, will make the whole thing go a lot smoother and quicker.

Someone was planning a cut-out....

Halfway there, so why stop now? Just start in the front and work your way back tearing it apart. Just make sure you have a good organized system for marking all the parts and this will be a piece of cake.

Oh yeah the nice thing about having a wider garage now is more places to store parts.
I should remember how everything went back on it to take it back off.

It certainly helps to have a bigger workspace but you’d be surprised how fast it fills up with one of these apart. I’ve bas ically had my garage, the garage’s attic and my cellar full of car parts for the last year or so.
Pro tip! Don't put the soft stuff like seats and headliner at the bottom of your parts pile as it will distort them...

My last garage was a one car but deep. I had piles of parts behind, to the sides, and in front of the car. Now I have a 2+ car, and have shelving behind it for parts, some room to the one side, and a whooooole nother car (or truck’s) worth of room to store things.
Until the wife wants to park there when the snow starts flying...

It might start out that way. Gotta get them rust holes patched first.
